FAQ
Q: Can I use Urchy to back up my phone and save $ on iCloud?
A: Yes! All iPhones are backed up by iCloud which is reachable at icloud.com. Their 2TB/mo plans are $9.99; 6TB = $29.99; 12TB = $59.99. At Urchy, 12TB = $36/mo and you don’t have to decide which tier to choose every month. 1) Log into your icloud.com account and download all files you want to back up including photos and videos. 2) Log into urchy.com and upload your files there. 3) You can now delete those same files from iCloud, saving you money (if you then decrease your iCloud plan). Keep in mind that only files on iCloud are viewable on your phone, so this is best for files you no longer want to view on your phone frequently. You can always view them on Urchy and shuttle them back and forth as needed. Whenever you get a new phone, you can pick and choose what to bring over from Urchy to iCloud and then it will show up on your new phone. Sometimes it’s easier to keep everything rather than sift through millions of photos. It can also be an easy way to make sure family members on the same iCloud family plan don’t have access to specific files you don’t want them to access.
Q: Can I use Urchy to back up old files on OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox?
A: Yes! Our rates are a fraction of these other options. Similar to iCloud, it makes sense to store any files you don’t use much on Urchy. Download old files onto your computer or phone, then log into urchy.com (you need to sign up for an account first), and upload your files there. Once they are up, you may delete the old files off your other device and services to save money. Those services are great for sharing files with others. If you no longer need to share your 2020 school files but want to reference them later… this is a great way to do it. In the future we will also offer sharing options.
Q: Can I use Urchy to back up old photos, videos, and songs from multiple old computers I have?
A: Yes! It’s a good idea to do it soon too before the old devices break or are no longer accessible. It’s a great way to store old memories and stay organized.
Q: What if I go over my TB tier in a month?
A: You are automatically billed in the next-highest tier, +$3 more.
Q: Can my bill go down?
A: Yes, automatically. It adjusts real-time per month. It is the main thing that makes us unique and extra fair.
Q: How do I pay?
A: Once you create an account, we set everyone up with automatic dynamic payments. You can chose $3/TB/mo using ACH out of your bank account or with a 2.9% fee if using a credit card.
Q: Is my data safe? What are your privacy policies?
A: Yes, safe in many ways. It is immediately encrypted in a way that only your login credentials have access to (and can decrypt) and stored redundantly in a decentralized fashion. We don’t share your data with anyone. We will share it with the FBI if required by law, but it will be in a nonsense-looking encrypted fashion that they won’t be able to crack. We don’t share your name or anything about you with any entity at all.
Q: Where is Urchy based?
A: In Ashland, OR, registered under Culnane LLC.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: Cancel any time. You then have until the end of that monthly billing period to download and backup your data before we delete it from our servers.
